More on the grandma stories...

- baby on the doorstep
- German war prisoners
-Almost freezing in a blizzard when my dad was very little and my grandpa frostbit his cheeks so bad that they split open
-granpda hanging from the Lethbridge bridge
-granpda getting hurt with a pitchfork(?)
-dad and uncle ralph eating all the cookies in the cookie jar and locking grandma outta of the house so she had to climp through a window when she was eight months pregnant!
-having the feeling to get up out of her chair for only seconds later it was hit be lightning?
-making dad a new sunday suit only to have him through it down the outhouse...another time he threw down a chicken!
-my dad had a pet antelope for awhile.
- Grandma was a tomboy with white blonde hair...her sister's used to tease her and called her towhead.
-She rode a horse and sleigh to school...they would heat up rocks and put them under the blankets to keep them warm.
-I've never met nor have I even ever heard of someone that doesn't like my grandma.
-Learning to cook with Grandma...she'd set up a little table in the kitchen for me and we'd make cookies and pies. One time she was making lemon meringue pie and she let me make my very own little tart. I rolled out the pastry, and grandma helped me get it in the tart pan. I added my pie filling, and a dollop of meringue and into the oven it went. I was so proud of that little pie. I ever so carefully cradled in my hands as I so cautiously walked home. When supper was over and my dad asked what was for dessert I was so excited to tell him that I made dessert! He took one look at my tart and said "what's for the rest of them?" and he laughed. I don't know how she did it, but my mom managed to cut a little tiny lemon tart into five pieces that night and I was so proud to have made dessert for my family. I think that's the day my love of cooking began...in my grandma's kitchen.

-Grandma always read lots of stories - Three Billy Goats Gruff, Little Black Sambo, Hansel and Gretel, Pinochia, Cinderella and countless others.
-Grandma always played games with us too...I learned how to play crib, chinese checkers, other card game and trouble...we spent many hours sitting in front of the heat vent playing games.

-Grandma has aLWAYS believed that I could do anything I put my mind too....ANYTHING. I think I can honestly say that I have never in my life felt anything but complete unconditional love from her. I'm not sure that I can say that about anyone else. She makes me want to be a better person. She has seen me make countless mistakes and has always treated me the same...like I'm her favorite...which I know is the exact same way she treats each and every one of her grandchildren. My grandma has been one of the biggest blessings in my life and I can't imagine what my life would have been like without her. She has influenced me in ways that I'm not even concious of. She has a great big place in my heart and I just pray that her surgery will go perfectly next week.

Stories of my Grandma....

I called my grandma tonight. I've really worried about her having surgery next week. We had a nice visit on the phone, but I just wish I was with her for a few hours. I've decided that I want to do a mini album about my grandma and some of the stories from her life that she told me about. She is such an amazing woman and has had some incredible experiences in her life. I'm also kinda curious to see if the stories I remember are the same ones she told me! Who knows what my young brain forgot or totally focused on.

I may write more later, just needed to write down this idea so I can start thinking about how I'd like to do it. :)
